Digital photographs are colour archival quality giclée prints on paper in editions of 10.

Spirit Rock captures spirits that are embedded in the rock.  It is an ethereal image that is grounded in the rock creating a polarity. The Ojibway legend of the Great Spirit Nanabijou affected me at a young age as did the respect for the land and the lake in Thunder Bay. The rock, water, trees and your relationship to these is an experience that needs to be unpacked through time. By continuously returning to The Sleeping Giant and other sites I have been able to come to terms with the spirit that is inherent in each site. I translate these understandings through digital photography. This digital media has the power to translate information into new forms. I am the medium through which the message of the spirit of the land and the lake has been translated.

Bio

Kathy Browning is an Artist and an Art Educator. She has a Ph.D. and B.Ed. from University of Toronto, an M.F.A. from York University, and a B.F.A. Honours from the University of Manitoba. Kathy has taught Visual Arts and Technology at the elementary, secondary, and university levels. She has shown artwork in all art media in Canada and the United States. Kathy has received provincial and national awards and recognitions for art, videos, art education, writing, publishing, and editing. Kathy’s giclée photographic prints are on archival paper in editions of 10.
