Swamp Rock 

Growing up in Thunder Bay, my relationship to landscape has inspired me to create photographically for over fifty years. Swamp Rock is from my Images on Rocks digital photographic series of rocks, water, trees, and sky in Northern Ontario. The beautiful white limestone La Cloche Mountains, were like a new canvas on which the art can happen. The white ghostly rocks are very sculptural and requested my artistic engagement. By compositing a photograph of a swamp with a photograph of the Willisville Mountain it generated a fusion of land and water and exemplifies living in Northern Ontario. This photograph was also exhibited as part of The Willisville Mountain Project series of exhibitions which helped to save the Willisville Mountain from Vale-Inco taking it down for mining. 

This photograph is a limited edition colour archival quality giclée print. Images on Rocks received support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Laurentian University Research Fund.

Bio

Kathy Browning is an Artist and an Art Educator. She has a Ph.D. and B.Ed. from University of Toronto, an M.F.A. from York University, and a B.F.A. Honours from the University of Manitoba. Kathy has taught Visual Arts and Technology at the elementary, secondary, and university levels. She has shown artwork in all art media in Canada and the United States. Kathy has received provincial and national awards and recognitions for art, videos, art education, writing, publishing, and editing. Kathy’s giclée photographic prints are on archival paper in editions of 10.
